Malaria Task Force

Thai-Burma border

Malaria mobile teams were set up by the MTF to attend displaced population without access to the camp health structures. One of these teams also oversees the malaria clinics in a settlement for internally displaced persons (5000) who are currently not receiving medical assistance from NGOs. The malaria mobile clinics teams are composed of medics, assistants and laboratory technicians and home visitors. On a daily basis the team diagnoses and treats malaria patients, following the same MTF guidelines. Uncomplicated cases are treated on site and severe cases are transported to the nearest in-patient facility. Because of the high susceptibility of the pregnant women to malaria, these mobile teams also run weekly antenatal clinics and the women attending are screened for malaria weekly. This allows an important reduction in the maternal morbidity and mortality due to malaria.
